Natural Tone Filter System

The world’s first natural felt–based high‑frequency control system for guitar condenser microphones.
INCLUDED WITH ALL SWAN PICKUPS

NV TONE Natural Tone Filter System

The world’s first natural felt-based high-frequency control system created specifically for guitar condenser microphones.

Included with Every SWAN Microphone

Every NV TONE SWAN series microphone includes our Natural Tone Filter System — a set of interchangeable felt inserts designed for natural analog tone shaping directly inside the microphone.

Music is more than volume and frequencies. Tone, texture and the natural response of the instrument are equally important. This philosophy inspired the development of our Tone Shaping Inserts system.

Why Natural Felt?

After extensive testing with foam, synthetic materials and plastic solutions, we found that only high-density sheep’s wool felt delivered the most natural and musical result.

  • Smooth high-frequency absorption without harsh resonances or artificial peaks
  • Different felt densities allow accurate tone adjustment for various guitars and room acoustics
  • Preserves the original character and dynamics of the instrument
  • Provides natural analog tone shaping directly at the sound source
Tone Shaping Inserts

The system uses interchangeable inserts made from natural sheep’s wool felt placed inside the microphone windscreen. Musicians can quickly adapt the microphone response depending on the instrument, room or playing style.

Bright Tone Filter

BRIGHT — 3 mm Felt

Maintains clarity and attack while gently smoothing the highest frequencies. Perfect for detailed and transparent sound.

Balanced Tone Filter

BALANCED — 5 mm Felt

Adds warmth and body while keeping natural articulation. A versatile option for both studio and live performance.

Warm Tone Filter

WARM — 6 mm Felt

Creates a softer and warmer tone by reducing aggressive high frequencies. Excellent for bright guitars and energetic playing styles.

The filtering process happens mechanically before the signal reaches EQs, plugins or external processing. This delivers pure analog tone shaping directly at the source.
Engineering & Acoustic Design

The NV TONE Natural Tone Filter System was developed using acoustic engineering principles commonly used in studio design and professional instrument manufacturing.

1 Carefully selected felt density allows precise high-frequency control without losing natural attack.
2 The microphone body and internal shielding help reduce electromagnetic interference and preserve signal purity.
3 The system performs consistently from delicate fingerstyle playing to aggressive strumming.
4 All tests were performed in acoustically neutral environments using detailed frequency spectrum analysis.

Benefits for Musicians
  • Natural high-frequency control for different guitars and room acoustics
  • Reduced feedback during live performances
  • Quick insert replacement in seconds
  • Warm analog character using genuine sheep’s wool felt
  • Better sound control before any digital processing or EQ
NV TONE Tone Shaping Inserts allow guitarists to shape their sound naturally — preserving the true voice of the instrument before it reaches any external processing.

How It Works

The NV-Tone Swan microphone delivers a natural, clear and balanced sound on both classical nylon-string guitars and acoustic steel-string guitars.

How NV-TONE Swan microphone works with amplifiers, audio interfaces and live sound systems
1 Install the microphone inside your guitar using the official NV-Tone installation guide.
2 Connect the microphone to the XLR input of your audio interface, mixer, preamp or recorder.
3 Enable phantom power. The microphone works with +12V to +48V phantom power.
4 Adjust input gain and output volume. Usually 30–40% is enough.
5 Play, record or perform live with a stable and natural microphone sound.
Important: If your equipment does not provide +12–48V phantom power, use an external phantom power supply such as XVIVE P1, BEHRINGER PS400, ART Phantom I, Mackie M48, PSC 48 Phantom or a similar device.

Alternative Mounting Method with 3M Dual Lock SJ3540

Important Information:
(This installation method applies only to the NV TONE Swan Integrated version.)

For players who prefer a removable installation, the microphone can also be mounted inside the guitar using 3M Dual Lock SJ3540. This method provides a firm hold without drilling the guitar body.

Benefits of this method

  • Strong fixation: 3M Dual Lock provides a stronger hold than regular Velcro and can safely support the microphone mount.
  • No drilling: the guitar body does not need to be drilled or permanently modified.
  • Vibration reduction: the dense structure of the fastener helps reduce unwanted vibration transfer.
  • Removable installation: the microphone can be attached or removed when needed.

Installation recommendations

  1. Clean the mounting area inside the guitar from dust and rough particles.
  2. Degrease the surface using a safe cleaner suitable for musical instruments.
  3. Apply the 3M Dual Lock tape firmly to the selected area.
  4. Allow the adhesive to set for 24 hours before attaching the microphone.

Installation & Operation Guide

The NV-Tone Swan microphone system is designed for quick installation and professional performance on both classical and acoustic guitars.

For External Installation

1 Unwind the cable and select the correct orientation for left-handed or right-handed guitar positioning.
2 Secure the cable in the appropriate position inside the guitar body.
3 Slightly loosen the pickup screws before installation.
4 Carefully place the pickup into the soundhole and tighten the screws securely.
5 Connect the XLR output to a mixer, combo amplifier, audio interface or other microphone input device.
6 Enable phantom power if it is not already active.

For Internal Installation

1 Remove the strap lock from the bottom of the guitar if installed. This location is recommended for the endpin output.
2 Create a 12 mm (15/32") hole using a drill or router.
3 Install and secure the endpin using the supplied nut and locknut. Adjust the output length beforehand if necessary.
4 Select the proper cable orientation for left-handed or right-handed guitar installation.
5 Secure the cable neatly inside the instrument body.
6 Loosen the pickup screws slightly before mounting.
7 Place the pickup into the resonator opening and tighten the screws carefully.
8 Connect the stereo jack to the internal guitar socket.
9 Connect the XLR output to your mixer, amplifier, preamp or audio interface.
10 Activate +48V phantom power if it is not enabled by default.
